Orange County's #1 Dive Bar!

About Us

Mutt Lynch’s Restaurant & Bar first opened its doors in 1976 on the Balboa Peninsula next to the Fun Zone.  The owners, Gail and Dan Lynch had always dreamt of having their own spot where they could provide great food, drinks and an unbeatable atmosphere.

On the evening of Easter Sunday in 1982, the original Mutt Lynch’s burned down in a fire that started in the above hotel.  Down on their luck, it wasn’t until July of 1982 that they were able to secure their Newport Beach Peninsula location where the restaurant still thrives today. In fact, the wooden bar that stands in Mutts today was from the original location that somehow survived the fire.

Mutt Lynch’s was one of the earliest adopters of the long-draw tap system which allowed a large variety of beers to be dispensable.  At times, selling as much beer as Angels Stadium.  Frequently awarded both locally and nationally, Mutt’s boasts many accolades from being the Best Sunday Funday, to the best dive bar, trivia night and brunch spot.  Men’s Journal named it one of the 24 Best Beach Bars in North America, while more locally, Mutts was the Times OC 2018 Readers’ Choice Favorite Beach Bar & OC Weekly’s Reader’s Choice Favorite Wings, Pub Trivia and Day Drinking Bar in 2019!

Going into their 44th year of family owned-and-operated business, Mutt Lynch’s is open 365 days a year, offering up classic dishes alongside the weird and indulgent.  One thing you won’t want to miss is the restaurant’s signature item—the schooner—a 32oz glass goblet filled with your drink of choice!

Currently Mutt Lynch’s hosts 40 beers on tap and nearly 200 food items on the menu between breakfast, lunch and dinner.  There are food specials every weekday and coveted Trivia Night on Wednesdays at 8PM

Assuming you will love it as much as everyone else, don’t forget to commemorate your visit with an item (or several) from the mile-long merchandise menu which features hats, shirts, sweatshirts, pajama pants, coffee mugs, etc.

At Mutt Lynch’s, it’s a party and you’re invited!

Fun Fact: If you’ve ever been curious about how Mutts got it’s name, Mutt Lynch’s is named after Dan’s father, Emmett Lynch, who served in the Army in WWI and was affectionately given the nickname ‘Mutt’ Lynch.
